European Green Capital 2016

Ljubljana won the title of European Green Capital 2016. It follows previous winners such as Bristol and Copenhagen.

The main reason Ljubljana took the title for 2016 was for its commitment to getting cars off the road by investing heavily in public transport and creating more bike lanes. Ljubljana has also shown initiative in preserving green areas around the city, as well as revitalizing others.
