Scandinavian Green Roof Institute
'The Augustenborg Botanical Roof Garden is a place for inspiration, education and research.' Located within the Augustenborg Eco City the 9500m2 roof garden was created in 1999. In 2000 the Scandinavian Green Roof Institute was formed to maintain the roof garden.
The Scandinavian Green Roof Institute is a not-for-profit organisation who not only maintain the roof garden, but also further develop the roof and then use it for educational/ inspirational purposes. The institute offers guided tours, technical visits and short courses. Teaching visitors a wide range of Green Roof related topics; such as-
- History and sustainable elements of the Augustenborg Eco City
- The make up and benefits of Green Roofs
- How proper Green Roof design can enhance biodiversity
In conjunction with several other organisations across Europe and the UK, the Scandinavian Green Roof Institute is currently participating in the BioSolar Roof program. This program aims to build an accredited, European wide training program which will develop the required workforce skills to install and maintain BioSolar Green Roofs. Training that will lead to a successful installation of solar panels on a biodiverse green roof; where the 2 elements work together effectively; efficient solar and a healthy, well functioning biodiverse green roof.
